Ahoy Senor Wins The Doon Bar Sefton Hurdle At Aintree

Ahoy Senor stepped up markedly on his Ayr victory to win his first Grade One race, the Doon Bar Sefton Hurdle at Aintree. Given a positive ride, and emulating his Ayr run he made all and as Derek asked him to gallop away from the last he stayed on strongly to the delight of his owners Carron and Bruce Wymer and Peter Russell.

While this was Derek's first Grade One he had the confidence in…

Pre Aintree

Aintree is always an exciting meeting for us and although we have just the two runners we are looking forward to them running.

Ain't My Fault won nicely last time and while this is a much higher grade of race he is in the handicap and deserves a crack at a Class One chase. He has been in good form at home and looks in good shape for this open race.

We are going to be at the track…

Racing And Sales Roundup

Hexham was a bit of a non-runner day as we had entered a number of soft ground horses, and when the going was good we ended up with just the two runners. Prince Dundee made a most satisfactory return to the track to be third, jumping boldly and loving being back racing. He had a stress fracture to his cannon in August, but having had two screws inserted he has made a full recovery. Our other runner,…

Homework And Pre Hexham And Newmarket

Some rain over the weekend allowed us to use the grass gallops today and we took advantage of the soft ground to work a batch of four year olds for the first time. It's A Midnight (Midnight Legend), DomandLouis (Getaway), and Yessiricanboogie (Milan) worked alongside some older horses, Celtic Flames, A Ladies Milan, Mint Gold, Effet Special, West End Lady, Southern Girl, Cockle Bay, Hector Master,…

Well Above Par Wins The Northern Lights Middle Distance Final

A super return to top form for Well Above Par at Carlisle this afternoon, with an emphatic win in the two and a half mile Northern Lights final. The stars aligned with the persistent rain turning the going soft and, given a positive ride by Derek, Well Above jumped well and stayed on strongly. We have struggled to find appropriate races for Well Above but his owners' patience and perseverance have…

Day Three Of Go North Weekend

The final day of the Go North weekend and the focus is on chases at Carlisle.

In the two mile handicap final we run Mint Gold, a good ground novice chaser who has had a nice break to prepare for this run. With a determined attitude, he has improved for chasing and our only worry is that the forecasted rain will soften the ground too much. If this is the case he will not run, Derek and Jaimie…

Day Two Of Go North Weekend; Kelso

On to Kelso with three runners in two races.

Izzy's Champion has been making a few errors over fences so he reverts to hurdles to get his confidence back. He carries a light weight in the two and a half mile handicap and we know that he will stay further than this.

In the two mile chase we have two runers; Vengeur De Guye is just five years younger than his jockey and he loves the…

Day One Of The Go North Weekend

Tomorrow sees the first day of the 2021 Go North weekend, a showcase of the Northern racetracks, trainers, and horses. A year ago there was a lot of momentum about the weekend with yards planning to hold open days to encourage racegoers to see the high standards that we hold. Of course, that was cancelled as we locked down and had to turn horses out, but the Go North weekend is back and with it…

Kelso Preview Today

It looks as if we will have good ground at Kelso and the yard has six runners.

Fyfin Patsy has been most unlucky in her two chase starts and we are back over hurdles with her in a mares handicap hurdle. She will ne fine on good ground, and the conditions of the race are ideal, so with a clear round she could be close up in the closing stages.

Bayfriars Bobby is a good ground type…

Mighty Thunder Runs A Mighty Race To Be Runner Up In The Midlands Grand National

Mighty Thunder ran a super race to be second in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter, travelling like a dream and hitting the front with a big leap at the third last. Staying on dourly he was just run out of it a few strides from the line to be second. This was another improved run from the novice chaser who seems to love the pace of the staying chases, and he is one to dream about next season.…
